I started playing ball as a young kid and was an average ball player. I tried out for High School ball and was told that I wasn’t good enough to play. I developed over the years and finally made the Varsity team for Woodstock High School in Woodstock, GA. as a Senior, pitching in the 90’s. I was selected as an All Region /All County my senior year. What I thought would have opened the doors to scholarships to D1 schools would only lead to one scholarship to Andrew College – a Junior College in Cuthbert,GA. During my time there I developed my skills and continued to craft my game. With hard work and dedication, I was a Top 100 prospect and All- Conference Tournament selection. At the end of my second year, I was a walk-on at Kennesaw State University baseball program. There I continued to develop and worked with the staff to hone my skills. When I wasn’t working with the staff I was driving to Macon and training with a pitching coach to continue to impact my pitching skills. In the 2 years I was there I walked away with a 2008 Pre-season All Conference Selection and 2009 All Conference Selection. In 2009 I entered the MLB draft and went in the 16th round to the Detroit Tigers system. The Tigers program allowed me to live my dream for 6 1/2 years being able to continue to grow and have the following stats:
2009: Short Season All Star Team Selection – 2nd high amount of saves in season with 10.
2010: Second among relievers with a 12.75 Strikeout Ratio. 3rd with 48 appearances among the season.
2011: Florida State League (High A) All Star Selection – 2nd Highest saves and 2nd highest strike out ratio with a 10.75 per 9innings.
2012: MLB ranked 15th in Detroit Tigers system as a prospect – -Eastern League All Star Selection (Double A) – 2nd highest strikeout ratio among relievers in the Eastern league with a 10.60 Strikeout Ratio.
2013: MLB ranked 13th in Detroit Tigers system as a prospect – Big League Camp Invite – Arizona Fall League Invite.
2014: Big League Camp Invite – MLB Ranked 11th in Detroit Tigers system among prospects.
During that time I learned a lot, which has created the man I am today. Ending my career I walked away with an ERA of 3.55 with 317 innings, 385 strikeouts, 47 saves, 20 homeruns and a batting average of .228. After retiring, I returned home and continued to work with players at the 17U and 18U level which resulted in every player signed with a Ranked Junior College, D1 school or professional contract.
Today you can find me on the fields in Marietta, GA. at the East Cobb Baseball complex coaching and helping players find their “drive”. When I look back at it, I say find what drives you and continue down that path and good things will happen!
I have been asked to contribute to the My Game Is On and hope that my experiences can impact you in a positive manner and drive you to be the best.
